1962 yılında Bayburt'ta Dünyaya gelen Cavit Karabey, Program yapmak için gittiği Şanlıurfa'nın Viranşehir ilçesinde kaldığı otelin odasında ölü olarak bulundu.    Evli ve 3 çocuk babası.  1986 yılında müzikle profesyonel olarak uğraşan sanatçı, ilk albümü "Sensizlik Öyle Zor ki"yi bu tarihte çıkardı. Bu tarihten sonra 19 albüme daha imza atan Cavit Karabey'in bestelediği, "Seni Sevmeyen Ölsün, Sevdiğimi Biliyorsun, Çift Camlardan Ses Gelmiyor, Vay Be, Mihriban, Allah'ından Bul, Geceler" isimli parçalar en tanınmış eserleri arasında yer alıyor.  Program yapmak için gittiği Şanlıurfa'nın Viranşehir ilçesinde kaldığı otelin odasında ölü bulunan "Arabeskin Kralı" olarak anılan Cavit Karabey 13.01.2008 Pazar günü son yolculuğuna uğurlandı.
