1944 yılında Şanlıurfa’da doğdu. Babasının adı Sabri annnesinin adı Ayşe’dir. İlk orta tahsilini Şanlıurfa’da tamamladı. Evli ve dört çocuk babasıdır. Oğullarından biri bestekar ve ses sanatçısı Kadir Tapucu’dur. Okul yıllarında birçok müzik etkinliklerine ve Urfa müzik meclislerine katıldı. Zamanın ustalarından istifade etti. TRT’de 30 sene Halk müziği sanatçısı olarak çalıştı ve İstanbul Radyosu’ndan 1999 yılında emekli oldu. Birçok türkü derleyerek TRT repertuarına kazandırdı. Hayatları değirmi, Tabakta bal olaydım, Şu Urfa’nın kapısı, İşte geldi arpa buğday harmanı, ben bu dağın ağacıyam derlediği türkülerden birkaçıdır.
