1967 yılında Trabzon’un Maçka ilçesinde doğdu. İlk orta ve Lise Eğitimini Maçka ‘da tamamladıktan sonra, İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarına girdi. 1988 yılında Konservatuarı bitirip aynı yıl İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesinde Sosyal Bilimler Master Eğitimine başladı. Karadeniz Müziğini Evrensel Müzik formlarıyla buluşturarak, özgün bir yapıda yeniden şekillendiren Volkan konak, İlk albümü -Efulim-’i 1993 yılında yaptı. Albüm başta Karadeniz halkının ve müzikseverlerin beğenisini ve ilgisini kazandı daha sonra 1994 yılının Ekim ayında -Gelir misin Benimle- adlı albümünü hazırladı.ve askerlik görevi nedeniyle bir süre çalışmalarına ara verdi.    Askerlik görevini tamamladıktan sonra hemen üçüncü albümü -Volkanik Parçalar-’ın çalışmasına başladı. Üç aylık çalışmadan sonrada bu albüm Müzikseverlerin beğenisine sunuldu. Volkan konak 1998 yılının Nisan ayında kendisi tarafından kurduğu -Kuzey Müzik Prodüksiyon- isimli firmasından -Pedaliza- isimli Albümünü Müzikseverlerin beğenisine sundu. 1993 yılından bu yana Albüm çalışmalarında yaklaşık elli adet bestesini sergilemiş ve bu çalışmalar sonunda Gazeteciler Cemiyeti, çeşitli vakıf ve dernekler tarafından yılın sanatçısı seçildi.1997 yılında Politika dergisi tarafından yılın en iyi Müzik sanatçısı seçildi. Volkan Konak’ın 1993 yılında ürettiği bir bestesinin tüm dünya hakları -Kuzey Müzik Prodüksiyon ile Fransız prodüktör Alain Finet tarafından yapılan sözleşme sonucunda Alain Finet tarafından satın alındı. Bu beste İspanyolca olarak tüm dünyada yayınlanmak üzere single olarak çıkarılacaktır. 2000 ılında -Şimal Rüzgarı- adlı albümünü DMC ’ den çıkararak dinleyicilerine ulaştırdı.
