Refik Başaran,1907'de Nevşehir'e bağlı Ürgüp ilçesinin Taşkınpaşa köyünde dünyaya geldi.Babasının adı Mustafa bey,annesinin adı ise Emine hanımdır. Refik başaran üç kardeşin ortancasıdır. Cumhuriyetin ilanından önce soyadı yasası çıkmadığından Başaran ailesine lakap olarak "Aliağagil" deniyordu. Aliağaların Refik, Atatürk' ün onur verdiği bir konserde çok başarılı olmuş ve bu başarılı konserden sonra Atatürk Refik'e, BAŞARAN soyadını vermiş.    Sanatçı saz çalmaya 15 yaşında başlamış, 17 yaşında da evlenmeye karar vererek 1924'te aynı köyden Fadime hanımla evlenmiştir.    Refik Başaran 1947 yılında ölmüş ve Başaran ailesi halen Ürgüp'ün Taşkınpaşa köyünde yaşamlarını sürdürmektedir.    THM Repertuarımıza kazandırdığı türküler:  Yaha Ulu Kavak Dalın Kurusun,  Kestanenin İrisi,  Merdivanın Altından,  Bacacılar Yüksek Yapar Bacayı,  Ayşe'min Yeşil Sandığı,  Dam Başında Sarı Çiçek (Nenni de Feride'm)  Ayvalı'nın Kara Taşı,  Şen Olasın Ürgüp,  Bahar Geldi Yine Yollar İşledi,  Çadır Kurdum Düzlere,
