Aslen Mersin'li olan Kamil Bey ve Şehnaz hanımın tek çocuğu olan Atilla Içli, 3. Mart 1945'te Ankara Yenimahalle'de doğdu.Sportmenliğini ve yiğitliğini, okçuluk, bisiklet, yüzme gibi sporun birçok dalında profesyonel olarak faaliyet göstermiş ve türkiye boks şampiyonu da olan babası Kamil İçli'den kazanır. Annesi İstanbul'lu müzisyen Şehnaz hanımla birlikte müzikle iç içe büyür. Anne Şehnaz hanım oğlunu halk müziğine teşvik eder.  Müzik ve sporla yoğrulan çocukluk hayatından neşeli, nüktedan fıkra anlatmayı seven, insanları sıcak sohbetiyle hemen kavrayıveren Atillla1968 yılında TRT Istanbul Radyosu 'nda memur kadrosu ile göreve başlar.Bir yandan müzik eğitimi alırken, aynı zamanda Tiyatro eğitimine Ankara Üniversitesi Dil ve Tarih Coğrafya Fakültesi'ne devam eder. Diğer yandan Ankara Radyosunda halk müziği program yapımcılığı görevini de başarıyla sürdürür.  Bir röportajında “müziğe başlamasaydım tiyatro sanatçısı olurdum mutlaka” diyecek kadar çok sever tiyatroyu ve tiyatro eğitiminin daha sonraları program sunuculuğu sırasında çok katkısı olduğunu dile getirir.1972 yılında Ankara Radyosu'na geçen Atilla Içli, kurum içi ses sanatçısı ve haber program uzmanı olarak vefatına kadar çalışır. Dört plak ve bir kaset çıkartır. Türkofon plak'ta 1970-1971 yıllarında çıkan 6098 numaralı, sözlerini Hasan Turan'ın yazdığı, Cemil Demirsiphahi'nin bestesi olan „Vermediler“ adlı beste ile altın plak kazanır.  Atilla Içli türkü ve şarkı formunda eserler bestelemiştir. “Çukurova“, „Sorasım geldi“, „Gel Gayrı“ gibi kasetine aldığı beste türkülerinden başka, TRT Sanat Müziği Repertuarına giren üç tane eseri vardır. Sözleri Yekta Göngör Özden'e ait olan „Gözlerin“ adlı Kürdi şarkı, yine Kürdi bir eser olan güftesi Ilkan San'a ait „Yıllarım kederle geçti geçecek“, ve Erdoğan Ünver'e ait Hicaz şarkı „Gün bitmektedir“.
