1902 - 1963 Selanik'te doğdu. Heybeliada Harbiye Mektebi'ni bitirdi. Hamidiye Kruvazörü güverte subayı iken, sağlık nedeniyle askerlikten çıkarıldı.    Bolu'da bir süre öğretmenlik yaptı, daha sonra Trabzon üzerinden Batum'a, oradan da Moskova'ya geçti. KUTV Üniversitesi'nde ekonomi-politik öğrenimi gördü. 1924'te yurda döndü.    Aydınlık Gazetesinde yayınlanan yazı ve şiirleri yüzünden on beş yıl hapsi istenince Moskova'ya kaçtı. 1928 Af Kanunu'ndan yararlanıp tekrar yurda döndü. Resimli Ay dergisinde çalışmaya başladı.    1932'de yeniden dört yıl hapse mahkûm olduysa da, bu kez Onuncu Yıl Affı'ndan yararlandı. Gazetecilik yaptı, film stüdyolarında çalıştı. 1938'de Harp Okulu'ndaki aramalarda ele geçen şiir ve kitaplarıyla orduyu kışkırttığı ileri sürüldü ve 28 yıl 4 aya hüküm giydi. Çankırı ve Bursa cezaevlerinde yattı.    1950'de özgürlüğüne kavuştuysa da sürekli olarak izlenmekten kurtulamadı. Askere alınması kararlaştırılınca tekrar Moskova'ya kaçtı. 25 Temmuz 1951'de T.C. yurttaşlığından çıkarıldı. Bunun üzerine Nâzım, Polonya uyruğuna geçti. 1963'te öldü. Moskova'da toprağa verildi. Mezarı hala bu kenttedir.
